Maharashtra NEET UG 2026 CAP Round 2 Preference Filling Extended

Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell has extended the preference-filling deadline for CAP Round 2 of NEET UG 2026 for admission to MBBS/BDS Group-A courses in private university colleges.

As per Notice, dated September 10, 2026, the preference-filling process has been extended up to 10:00 AM on September 12, 2026, allowing candidates additional time to submit or modify their preferences for the participating private university medical and dental colleges.

The decision follows government communications regarding the inclusion of three private university institutions in CAP Round 2 for MBBS and BDS admissions for the 2026-27 academic year.

Three Private University Colleges Included in CAP Round 2

Maharashtra CET Cell has included the following institutions under the respective private universities:

According to the provisional Round 2 seat matrix, these colleges together account for 450 MBBS seats and 100 BDS seats, taking the total seats covered in the matrix to 550.

40% Seats Reserved for Maharashtra State Domicile Candidates

The notice states that 40% of the total intake capacity of these colleges will be reserved for candidates having Maharashtra State Domicile, i.e. Maharashtra State candidates.

The remaining 60% of seats will be filled from candidates on an All India basis. However, within these seats, a maximum of 15% of the total intake can be reserved for eligible Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates.

The notice further states that if eligible NRI candidates are not available for the NRI category, those seats will not be immediately filled and will instead be made available to candidates on an All India basis from CAP Round 3 onwards.

Who Can Fill Which Preferences?

The Maharashtra CET Cell has provided specific instructions regarding preference filling based on candidate eligibility.

Maharashtra State Domicile Candidates

Candidates having Maharashtra State Domicile can fill preferences for:

  • State Quota – 40%
  • All India Quota – 45%
  • NRI Quota seats – 15%, subject to eligibility

Candidates From Outside Maharashtra

Candidates from outside Maharashtra, referred to as OMS candidates, can fill preferences for:

  • All India Quota – 45%
  • NRI Quota seats

However, the NRI quota seats will become available to such candidates from CAP Round 3 onwards, as specified in the notice.

NRI Candidates

NRI candidates can fill preferences only for the 15% NRI Quota seats.

The notice specifically states that such candidates will not be eligible for any other quota.

Candidates Can Modify Previously Submitted Preferences

Candidates who have already registered and submitted their preferences but want to make changes or corrections have been given an opportunity to modify their choices.

Such candidates must unlock their preferences through their login and make the necessary changes within the extended deadline.

The CET Cell has advised candidates to carefully review their preferences before final submission.

The provisional Round 2 seat matrix released by the Maharashtra CET Cell lists the following seats:

The seat matrix also provides the applicable category-wise distribution, State quota, All India/NRI quota and other relevant seat details.

Seat Allotment Based on Candidate Preferences

The CET Cell has clarified that the process of filling preferences for the second round is currently underway and the above colleges will be included in CAP Round 2.

Admissions will be carried out on the basis of the preferences filled by candidates, along with the applicable admission and reservation rules.

Candidates are therefore advised to carefully consider their eligibility and quota before adding these colleges to their preference list.
