Tamil Nadu NEET UG 2026: 250 New MBBS Seats Added

Tamil Nadu Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research, has announced the addition of 250 MBBS seats to the ongoing Round 2 Online Counselling for MBBS/BDS Degree Courses for the 2026-27 academic session.

The urgent notification, dated September 9, 2026, states that the Selection Committee has received the required regulatory approvals/Letters of Permission (LoP) from the competent authority, National Medical Commission (NMC), and the concerned university for the additional intake/newly permitted medical college. The newly sanctioned seats have been included directly in the ongoing Round 2 counselling.

250 MBBS Seats Added to Ongoing Round 2 Counselling

As per the notification, 50 additional MBBS seats have been added to the existing intake of Madha Medical College and Hospital, Thandalam, Chennai, while another 50 seats have been added to Arunai Medical College and Hospital, Tiruvannamalai.

APS Medical College & Hospital, Melavannapuram, Kancheepuram, has received approval for an initial intake of 150 MBBS seats as a newly established/self-financing medical college.

The notification specifies that the seats will be apportioned according to the prevailing Government and Management Quota ratio and Communal Reservation guidelines of Tamil Nadu.

Candidates Allowed to Modify Choices

Tamil Nadu Selection Committee has also provided an important opportunity to candidates participating in Round 2 counselling.

All eligible candidates participating in Round 2, including candidates who have already submitted their choices, are permitted to:

  • Edit their existing choices
  • Re-order their preferences
  • Add choices for the newly approved medical colleges

This means candidates who had already submitted their Round 2 preferences can now revisit their choices and include the newly added medical colleges, subject to their eligibility and applicable counselling rules.

The official Selection Committee website is currently hosting the Round 2 online counselling links for both the 7.5% Tamil Nadu Government School Students reservation and the 92.5% Government & Management Quota, including NRI and Minority categories.

Seat Allotment Based on NEET Rank and Candidate Preferences

The notification clarifies that seat allotment will be carried out strictly on the basis of:

  1. NEET UG 2026 State Rank
  2. Communal Reservation
  3. Preference choices submitted by the candidate

Therefore, candidates are advised to carefully review and modify their choice preferences after considering the newly added MBBS seats.
